SUMMARY:Bridging the Gaps: Strategies for Challenging Behavior training sessions
DESCRIPTION:Do you work with children or youth with challenging behavior? \nAre you interested in learning pro-active strategies to minimize challenging behaviors? \nDo you want to learn how to support the Big 3 (not listening\, not participating\, minor rude/disrespectful behavior)? \nIf so\, you are invited to attend a Bridging the Gaps: Strategies for Challenging Behavior session \nEVENINGS 5:30 – 8:30 pm: Tuesday April 24th. Gudangaay Tlaats’gaa Naay Library and Wednesday April 25th. Sk’aadgaa Naay Haida Classroom \nFULL DAY 8:00 am to 2:00 pm: Thursday April 26th. Village of Port Clements Senior’s Room. \nFood will be provided at all sessions! \n  \nDuring the evening session you will learn: \n\nThree building blocks to minimize challenging behavior\nHow to incorporate the building blocks into practice\nWhy the Big 3 behaviors unsettle us\, and how we can work with these behaviors\nDiscuss current scenarios and get support with what to do\n\nThis full-day session will include: \n\nWhat pro-active strategies can be used to minimize challenging behaviour\nWhat can you do when kids are not listening\, not participating\, or are being rude\nDiscussion around specific case scenarios\nRole-plays in which staff get to see what strategies are working and which are not\nAs time permits\, specific topics such as anxiety and bullying\n\nThe session will be facilitated by Katy Bigsby. Katy has worked with children and youth with behavioural and social-emotional issues in school and community settings for the past 25 years. Her formal training is in Social Work and Education. She is currently completing her Masters of Leadership in Community Engagement and Adult Education at the University of Victoria. Some of her past clients include: BC Recreation and Parks Association\, the BC Ministries of Education\, Health\, and Sport\, Culture and Community Development\, the University of Victoria\, the Directorate of Agencies for School Health (DASH-BC) and the BC Provincial Health Services Authority.
