TINY DISHES – POTTERY WORKSHOP – SANDSPIT
Join Amber in sunny Sandspit, for a day of muddy hands! We will use clay to handbuild an array of small dishes and use a variety of surface decoration techniques to express and explore our creativity.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners to pottery. If you already have experience with pottery, you may find some of the information repetitive, but I would still be more than happy to have you and you may still learn some new techniques for surface decoration!
For those attending from Graham Island, the start and end time work well with the 9:30 AM ferry over, and 3:30 PM ferry back. You may also be eligible for travel reimbursement through the Moresby Island Travel Fund, details listed on the HG Rec website.
WHAT YOU GET:
-
3.5 hours of facilitated studio time, which also includes all materials to make and decorate approximately 6 small dishes, as well as the two kiln firings and glazing necessary to complete your pieces.
SCHEDULE:
We’ll spend the workshop in the beautiful, bright art room at ALM School, first going over the basics of ceramics and then handbuilding a variety of small dishes and plates. Various surface decoration techniques will be demonstrated and practiced to jazz up our dishes.
Midday we will take a lunch break, before heading back to the art room to continue work on our dishes. Edges will be softened, colour added and finishing touches completed.
Our time together will finish at around 2:30 PM.
Once the pots have completely dried, I will fire them twice and glaze them with a clear gloss glaze. Your pieces should be ready within a few weeks of the workshop!
WHAT TO BRING:
-
Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting muddy
-
Things to imprint into the clay eg. foliage, lace. (Some will be provided as well)
-
Some brainstormed ideas of designs, shapes or pictures you might draw, paint or trace out so you don’t have to spend the full class thinking of what to do!
-
Craft apron (optional)
-
