PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTERING YOUR CHILD/REN:
Haida Gwaii Recreation is excited to bring back our Summer Day Camps for their 43rd year! These camps offer a full week of fun activities for your child/ren ages 5* to 12 years. We want kids to have fun as they create, explore, make new friendships, learn to be part of a team, and more!
*Must have completed Kindergarten. Child/ren present at camps that have not completed Kindergarten will have registration revoked and no refund will be provided. Our staff are not Early Childhood Educators and are not prepared to work with large groups with those below school age. Haawa/thank you for your understanding.
Please select the preferred week of camp during registration. If registration is full (no tickets available online), to place your child/ren on a waitlist e-mail info@hgrec.com. Due to the high demand for our camps, cancellations without 72hr notice will NOT be refunded, unless the absence is due to medical, including COVID-19 illness or isolation.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT CAMPS THIS SUMMER:
We have two themes for in-person camps this year:
- Week 1 & 2 HYBRID (one week only) – Mini Movers – Active Living & Tiny Travellers – Community Action
Mini Movers: Join our Summer Camp staff for this movement-based summer camp, where the emphasis is on growing physical literacy and getting outside to promote active living for life! In addition to sport and play, our trained staff will take campers on engaging nature walks, lead sports, stretch, obstacle & agility courses and activities that build teamwork and fundamental skills. They will bring campers in to help prepare their own healthy snacks, understand the importance of hydration, and will incorporate “active art” projects. We find these options really help those kids that can’t sit still for traditional projects to get moving and create with their peers! From nature weaving to catapult painting, we’re inspiring a generation of “mini movers”!
Tiny Travellers: This week of camp is all about change-making and “travelling the globe”! Youth will teach one another, build upon leadership skills, and work together to find solutions to unique issues locally and abroad. They will share and educate their communities, spreading acceptance and understanding, through the use of. art installations, food, and other creative works. The focus of this camp is to support youth-led advocacy and education, and find some fun ways to help our “tiny travellers” learn to be stewards of our home and the world!
*We do not provide lunch. Please make sure your child/ren come prepared with food + reusable water bottle.
