NEW! RED CROSS WILDERNESS FIRST AID (40HR) – K’IL KUN – SANDSPIT & MASSET
Organizations & individuals can register below for the following 40-hr Wilderness First Aid (WFA) courses. This course is suitable for those who wish to become professional guides, parks officials and/or work in fields such as recreation and ecotourism. Participants learn skills and strategies for providing extended care overnight to a few days. For more information on the course, visit the Canadian Red Cross website.
**PRIORITY REGISTRATION- LOCAL RESIDENTS in RECREATION & TOURISM** — we are only offering these limited LOCAL courses in 2024 with space for 12 in each. If your organization (e.g., government) brings up WFA First Aid with an off-island outfitter, please continue to do so! If your employer provides these courses, please attend those first. We are hoping these courses can target those who need a local option, like small businesses, SAR teams, and those working in tourism and recreation specifically, over serving organizations with larger budgets to bring in off-island instruction. The more WFA the better!**
Each course includes a pocket mask, certification through Red Cross, all PPE, course materials (Wilderness Remote Field Guide) and instruction. Please come prepared with your own food + water. Dress appropriately. If traveling to/from Moresby Island for the course in K’il Kun – Sandspit, keep your receipts and submit to HG Rec (Po Box 187) for reimbursement through the Moresby Island Travel Fund.

COVID-19 SAFETY PROCEDURES
- Participants can show up to class at least 15 minutes before the start. Please give enough time for the instructor to complete daily verbal screening, attendance, and to complete any required forms.
- Participants must complete a waiver on the first day of class for themselves and/or child/ren. Failure to do so means participants will not be permitted entry.
- Participants must stay home if they show any symptoms (e.g. cough, fever, fatigue).
- Class may be cancelled by instructors if they show symptoms.
- In the event of a participant or instructor showing symptoms during the program, the participant will be asked to remove themselves from the program and seek medical advice. Beyond daily screening, is not up to our staff to do temperature checks, testing or contact tracing. This is the role of the health authority.
Staying safe is a shared responsibility. These procedures and our combined efforts help to lower the risk of spreading COVID-19, but there is still a risk.
Please do your best to abide by these new procedures to ensure we can recreate safely and respectfully together on Haida Gwaii.
