If so, you are invited to attend a Bridging the Gaps: Strategies for Challenging Behavior session

EVENINGS 5:30 – 8:30 pm: Tuesday April 24th. Gudangaay Tlaats’gaa Naay Library and Wednesday April 25th. Sk’aadgaa Naay Haida Classroom

FULL DAY 8:00 am to 2:00 pm: Thursday April 26th. Village of Port Clements Senior’s Room.

Food will be provided at all sessions!

 

During the evening session you will learn:

  • Three building blocks to minimize challenging behavior
  • How to incorporate the building blocks into practice
  • Why the Big 3 behaviors unsettle us, and how we can work with these behaviors
  • Discuss current scenarios and get support with what to do

This full-day session will include:

  • What pro-active strategies can be used to minimize challenging behaviour
  • What can you do when kids are not listening, not participating, or are being rude
  • Discussion around specific case scenarios
  • Role-plays in which staff get to see what strategies are working and which are not
  • As time permits, specific topics such as anxiety and bullying

The session will be facilitated by Katy Bigsby. Katy has worked with children and youth with behavioural and social-emotional issues in school and community settings for the past 25 years. Her formal training is in Social Work and Education. She is currently completing her Masters of Leadership in Community Engagement and Adult Education at the University of Victoria. Some of her past clients include: BC Recreation and Parks Association, the BC Ministries of Education, Health, and Sport, Culture and Community Development, the University of Victoria, the Directorate of Agencies for School Health (DASH-BC) and the BC Provincial Health Services Authority.
