BC TRAPPERS EDUCATION COURSE – May 2023
The BC Trapper Education course must be successfully completed to qualify a person for a trapping license. The course takes approximately 21 hours (three days, Saturday through Monday, full attendance mandatory), which includes instruction, demonstration, student participation, and a written exam. Successful completion is based on participation and exam results. The course is designed primarily for students aged 14 years and older. Younger students (minimum 12 years) can be accommodated only if accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also taking the course. Haida Gwaii Rec is helping to facilitate this program locally (requested by locals). The closest BC Trapper course is in Prince George/McBride or on Vancouver Island. The instructor will be visiting from McBride and has extensive knowledge in this area, in teaching this course, and will be privy to the local context, in consultation with FrontCounterBC (Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development), local trappers, knowledge holders, and more. If you have questions or wish to support this course, please e-mail info@hgrec.com. Course fees include manual and 1-year membership with BC Trappers Association.
