STRENGTHENING CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH

This one-day in-person training, developed in collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario, will help anyone running children’s programs be more informed and prepared to support their staff in promoting positive mental health in children. Participants will learn key concepts and factors that affect children’s mental health including the impact of stress and environment on a child’s ability to cop. This training will provide tools and suggested activities to use with staff to help improve their understanding and interactions with children who face challenges in their programs.

This training is for anyone running programs/instructing children aged 6 to 12.At the completion of this training, learners will be able to identify key concepts relate to children’s mental health, as well as strategies to help staff promote positive mental health and respond appropriately to children with challenges and/or mental health conditions.

PRINCIPLES OF HEALTHY CHILD DEVELOPMENT

A on-day training that teaches front-line leaders how to enhance the quality of the programs they are delivering. It provides in-depth knowledge of the HIGH FIVE Principles of healthy child development so front-line leaders understand what they need to do to ensure each child’s social, emotional and cognitive needs are met. This training is for front-line leaders and teachers of anyone working with children aged 6-12 (i.e. instructor, camp counselor).

Leaders have a major impact on a child’s positive experience The training is based in research and has been designed to equip leaders with activities, knowledge, tips and resources addressing key topics like bullying, conflict resolution, physical literacy, children’s mental health and moderate to vigorous physical activity. They also learn to enhance their relationships with children and other staff members.

Training is provided by HIGH FIVE A quality standard for children’s sport and recreation Founded by Parks and Recreation Ontario.
 Room at Gudangaay Tlaats’gaa Naay in Masset.
There are 15 spaces for each day of training and participants will receive a certificate of completion. Upon receipt of the Certificate participants are able to access free training online through HIGH FIVE.
