Whether it’s getting together with friends or achieving a fitness goal, Haida Gwaii Recreation aims to enhance our communities. It’s our mission to foster an inviting recreation & leisure environment that is accessible to all ages & abilities on Haida Gwaii. We support the island recreation community in the development and delivery of quality programming across the lifespan, from gymnastics to summer camps for youth, to walking groups and yoga for seniors. Check out our registered and drop-in programs online. During COVID-19, we’re promoting responsible recreation and leisure that aligns with recommendations from the Province, Council of the Haida Nation and our local governments.

Our History

Established in 1980, the Haida Gwaii Regional Recreation Commission is a registered non-profit society. It was created to build and support island-wide recreation and leisure programming. With our goal being to build healthy individuals, families and communities, we provide quality recreation programs, services and events that enhance the quality of life for all Haida Gwaii residents.

Incorporated March 20, 2001, Haida Gwaii Recreation is structured to pursue grants and additional funding from non-government and community recreation-based grants, program fees, donation and other sources. Commission membership and Society directorship are reviewed yearly at Annual General Meetings.
Community members interested in becoming a Commissioner or Member-at-Large must submit a letter of intent outlining their interest and experience in recreation to the Commission at least seven (7) days prior to the Annual General Meetings.
