INSTRUCTOR BIO

Alan is born and raised in Daajing Giids, and is a life-long hockey nut! Although he couldn’t play as much hockey as he wanted growing up on Haida Gwaii, he was fortunate to attend hockey camps every summer, at the Len Barrie Hockey School in Victoria and then the Allan Andrews Hockey Growth Program in Charlottetown, PEI.

Alan is an active hockey player with the Daajing Giids floor-hockey and Masset roller-hockey groups, and has played ice hockey for the Haida Gwaii Islanders at two tournaments in Prince Rupert, scoring his first ever competitive ice-hockey goal in 2022. He has also taken on the role of Vice President on the board of directors of the recently-revived Haida Gwaii Skating Rink Society, and is hoping to help build the hockey community and infrastructure on Haida Gwaii.

Recognizing a need for more organized youth hockey programming, Alan has taken a handful of Hockey Canada coaching clinics delivered by BC Hockey in order to meet the provincial certification requirements for rec-level hockey head coaches in every age group up to U18.
