PRE-SEASON MINI SOCCER CONDITIONING CAMP – HLGAAGILDA/SKIDEGATE
| Haida Gwaii Youth Soccer League begins this April! Join Rec Coordinator & Community Coach Alissa MacMullin for 2 half-day sessions at Sk’aadGaa Naay Elementary Fields this Spring Break. This year’s soccer season is shorter than usual due to the Easter long-weekend and March Break falling later in the month, so here’s a chance to have a bit more time for team and skill-building.
Youth will have the chance to:
- Learn the league rules
- Ball control, learning to move with the ball
- Passing & shooting basics
- Overhead throws, corner kicks
- Positioning & plays
- Showing respect & sportsmanship to teammates, opponents, coaches & referees
- Finish with scrimmages/mini-world cup
*Please bring water & snacks. Will have some fun participation prizes.
PLEASE NOTE: pre-registration is recommended. If space available, drop-in will be permitted.

COST: BY DONATION – all donations will be personally matched and will be spent on soccer gear for local youth in need. Please e-transfer donations to bookkeeper@hgrec.com or bring cash.

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Alissa was born and raised in Daajing Giids and has worked as a Rec Coordinator with Haida Gwaii Recreation since 2019. She’s been playing soccer since first joining the youth league in grade 2. She has coached with Haida Gwaii Youth Soccer (Grades 4/5) for 2 years and is passionate about gender equity in sport and building athletes for life. She spent many years playing co-ed with local futsal crews indoors in the winter, taking to the fields in the summer. She has NCCP Run, Jump, Throw, Wheel and Sport Coach training for elementary physical literacy & track & field coaching. She looks to grow year-round soccer opportunity for young girls and adult women on Haida Gwaii heading into 2024, with a commitment to the HGYSA coaching, the league that first instilled her passion for sport!
