SOLD OUT – WAITLIST ONLY! POTTERY CLASS – BEGINNER THROWING – MASSET/GAW TLAGÉE
This one-day introductory pottery class will have 4 hours of hands-on, one-on-one instruction at the pottery wheel. You will have the opportunity to make your own cups! No experience is necessary.
Each participant will have their own wheel for the day. You will be coached through throwing a basic cylinder cup shape. We will do all the steps slowly together the first time, then you will get to throw on your own at your own pace. Your instructor will be available for one on one tutoring as needed. We will also talk about different cup shapes you can do with some examples on hand.
You can choose up to 3 pots to keep at the end of the class. These cups or bowls will get trimmed, glazed and fired for you – ready for pickup 6-8 weeks later.
Course fees include all the clay you’ll need, instructional handouts, the use of a wheel and all the tools necessary to make your own cup. We will take a 1/2 hour lunch break (so bring a lunch!)
What you need to bring:
- Clothes you can get dirty in, an old towel, can be dishtowel size or bigger.
- Bring a lunch & water.
- You will have your own wheel for the day, the clay and tools are included!
Things that make throwing at the wheel difficult:
- High heels
- Long hair hanging down (bring something to tie it up!)
- Jewelry on the hands (will get worn down by the spinning clay)
- Long nails

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Haida Gwaii’s nature is a constant inspiration that seeps into the pottery I make. Plants, animals, the ocean and the weather are all big parts of life here.
The stones and shells I come across on beach walks often come home with me to later be used to create texture and pattern on the clay. I make all my own glazes from raw ingredients. I enjoy the constant experimenting and the long process of making pottery from start to finish. I also love that pottery is intrinsically linked to Home and food. I have a few milk goats, and a garden and in the winter I write music on accordion, piano and pump organ. But mostly, do pottery!

CANCELLATION POLICY: Find your replacement – please email info@hgrec.com if you missed the date of cancellation reimbursement (March 10, 2023) and need assistance in finding a replacement as we may have a waitlist! You must let us know if you’re not able to attend and provide contact for your replacement. In this circumstance, you can “sell” your ticket to another person; however, if these conditions cannot be met, reimbursement will not be provided.
